The NHS recommends eating two portions of fish a week including one oily such as Salmon or Mackerel. Most people in the UK do not eat this much and this can be especially hard for children or fussy eaters.
Oily fish contains Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) which have numerous health benefits in the body including supporting normal brain function and vision and supporting heart health.
DHA) and EPA can be made from ALA, Alpha-lipoic acid which is found in flaxseeds, chia seeds, walnuts, tofu and spinach. However, factors such as age, poor dietary choices including an excess of saturated fats can reduce the body’s efficiency in this process which is why supplementation can be useful.
